Norwegian Language Services is operated by Marte Hult, independent scholar
and translator, who holds a Ph.D. in Scandinavian Languages and Literature
from the University of Minnesota, where she taught Norwegian for many
years. She is the author of Framing a National Narrative: The Legend Collections of Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Norwegian for
Novices, a beginning Norwegian online language course. She recently
completed a translation of Hans Christian Andersen fairy tales for the
Barnes and Noble Classics series, and contributed to The Greenwood Encyclopedia of Folktales and Fairy Tales.
Marte Hult prefers to work during the long Minnesota winters. In the summer she is most often to be found either in her garden or fishing with her husband in Voyageurs National Park. During the 2009- 10 academic year, Marte will again be teaching a Norwegian literature survey course at St. Olaf College, one of her favorite places.
